Graphs and data sources disappear when updating MySQL

Post by csst01 »

Today, we tried updating MySQL 4.1.21 to 5.0.37. After trying sevral times, we always had the same result : Our graphs and data sources were all gone. We tried importing the database aswell as copying it in the ne mysql/data directory on different occasions. Everything was ok in the .log file and the .rdds kept updating normally, we just couldn't see the result.

In the end, we downgraded back to MySQL 4.1.21 and everything was back to normal. Also, when with MySQL 4.1.21, the scheduled task for the poller would take about 1,5 minutes. With MySQL 5.0.37, it would take almost 5 minutes.

Does anyone have the solution to make Cacti work with MySQL 5.0.37?

Specs:

Windows 2003 Server SP1
Cacti 0.8.6g
PHP 5.2.1
MySQL 4.1.21 -> 5.0.37

1) You should not copy the mysql data files to upgrade, should be using mysql dump. Might be a good idea to read the mysql database upgrade guides too for 4.1 -> 5.0.

2) You need to properly set a few settings in the my.ini file, refer to my installation guide / faq http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=11747

3) PHP 5.2.1 has issues, go back to 5.2.0.

I did use mysqldump. I tried that, and after it didn't work, I tried simply copying the database. Then, I restored a backup of Cacti from the night before and still, no graphs. All the data is there and still updates because we use some of the same .rrd files in another application and everything works there.

Well no graphs could be a simple issue to fix... click on graph management, then a graph, and finally enable graph debugging. What is the error?

Also, make sure you properly set the rrdtool version in cacti's settings.

Well, after installing cacti 0.8.6j prior to MySQL 5.0.37, everything seems to work. Simply installing a newer version of cacti before upgrading MySQL solved the problem. Thanks for the help.
