My weathermap says you will loose features.Shall i continue?

Post by smartech1 »

Hi Hoowie/all,

I am going through a small confusion on weathermap.

When i browse my editor.php, it says you will not be able to use certain features. Please find
screen shot of same.

I am confused whether to continue or anything else tobe installed before continuing.

Please suggest me and guide me how to add my routers and interfaces to apply for a map and i could monitor status of both devices and links on individual interface.

I have installed Monitor,Threshold, hostinfo, successfully and running on
Cacti-0.8.6i,
Cacti d-0.8.6i with 1 minute polling,
PHP 4.3
Netsnmp above 5

Thanks for you suggestion and help.

No, it says the EDITOR is missing features. Weathermap is fine. Depending on what map features you want (like curves, and customising individual nodes), you might need to edit your map config files in a text editor to add those features (notepad, vi, whatever).

However, as I said before, if your 1-minute polling takes close to a minute to run, I would not recommend installing Weathermap 0.8x, as you will probably make the poller cycle take too long. In 0.9 you can run the weathermap process independently of the poller cycle, or only every 5 (for example) cycles.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.

Hi,..........

Thanks for your reply. But it is learnt that 0.9ver of weathermap is not stabilized one. right??

What is the procedure to edit weathermap config files to make features like curves, node enabled. Should i know PHP language well??

How do i add my nodes, links now to make my network visible on Weathermap with status monitoring. Could you please elaborate the steps to do this.

Thanks a lot sir.

There are two seperate things here really. One is Weathermap, which is the part that produces maps from text configuration files. The other is the editor, which allows you to edit some parts of those configuration files.

The whole manual, apart from the editor page, is about creating maps with only a text editor.

Read the Introduction page of the manual, at least. It explains the basics of how configuration files work. It isn't that hard.

Personally, I use the editor to do a quick layout of the map, then alter it by hand in notepad to make the nicer parts.

0.9 is not currently as stable as 0.82, but it's not going to break anything for you. There will be 0.9pre3 in the next few days, which will probably become 0.9 final version, unless someone finds a new problem.
