Cacti Graphs Randomly stop displaying

Post by cmarticus »

I am having a problem where randomly my graphs stop displaying. If I restart the WWW Publishing service then the graphs reappear. Cacti contiues polling during this time but untill the WWW service is restarted the graphs don't show up. Right now I have a scheduled task set to restart the service every 1/2 hour. Anyone else experiencing this issue? There are no errors in the debug log everything seems to be fine. I do get an IIS worker process error which used to make cacti die all together until WWW service was restarted. I put it under its own app pool and now just the graphs stop showing up. It is random when it happens but is occuring more frequently now. Thanks in advance for the help

I suggest you upgrade to cacti 0.8.6j and then apply all patches. The "Graph Debug Apache Lockup Issue" patch, actually applies to both IIS/Apache and sounds like possibly the problem you're describing.

I occasionally have this problem, and have to restart IIS to get the graphs to view again properly, but mine was never that often. I have a scheduled task that restarts the IIS service (iisreset) every night at Midnight, but that is just as a precaution. I am not sure what causes this problem, but that does fix it. It probably is a configuration issue with IIS, but i havent taken the time to figure out exactly what it is.

I was on version J and had issues with the poller stopping and intermitent spaces in the graphs. I reverted back to I. I think the graph issue is something to do with application pool settings just not which one.

I as well am having this problem, not sure what is causing it, but it is very random. I have cacti running on a VMWare machine and restarting the machine works for me, I will have to try just restarting the process, much easier. I'm using the Windows Beta build though, so it might have something to do with some bugs in the code.

All of you need to make sure you're running the latest version of cacti and have all patches applied. There is a specific patch for 0.8.6j which fixes an issue that locks up IIS/Apache if graph debugging is turned on.

When graphs stop working, click on the little wrench icon next to a graph and post the command output.

I just had the graphs stop working on me, when I click on the wrench after digging down in a graph, I get a PHP error, saying

PHP has encountered an Access Violation at 0184AE66

It doesn't provide anything else, the top of the webpage is just big and grey. Thanks!

I also just tried to apply all the patches, but it appears that they have been built into the latest Bets build, at least it told me that they had already been apllied, so it must be something else. Sorry, I know "it must be something else" isn't very helpfull. :(

Alright, so since ya'll are probably using php 5.2.1, sounds like it's got issues. Try reverting back to php 5.2.0 or 5.1.6. Yes, it IS on their site, just hidden.

Thanks for the info BSOD, since I am running the Windows Beta 1.5, can I just download the older version of PHP and replace the version currently installed, and if so, how would I go about doing so? Sorry, I'm kinda new to all of this. Thanks!

I was having a similar issue under 5.1.6 but then the entire page stoped showing up not just the graphs. Same solution restart WWW Publishing Service but that is why I updated in the first place. I want to start from scratch but there is quite a bit of history data and custom user configurations.

Dacob9906: Stop all IIS services, then overwrite the files in c:\php (except for php.ini!). Start IIS back up again, and you should be set.

cmarticus: the 1.4 installer came with php 5.1.6. Well if all recent version of php keep crapping out, not sure what to tell ya. I don't view my graphs often, but php 5.1.6 seems to work fine on my server.
