Nagios+Nagiosgraph+Cacti=No Graphs for me

Post by mcclung8 »

Hello,
I apologize in advance if I waste anyone's time on something stupid.
My problem is that no graph shows up for me. My setup follows:
Debian Sarge with nagios polling via check_nt (the nc_net version), and nagiosgraph taking this perfdata and creating rrd files out of it.
rrdtool displays the rrd files just fine (while ran from www-data, which is what apache2 is running under). I am trying to graph my ping results (as a starter), but to no avail.
1. I have a data template with the 2 ds's (losspct and rta) from my rrd file as the sources.
2. I have a graph template with the 2 DSs as graph template items. (graph item types being 'COMMENTS')
3. I have a Data Source entered, with the proper path and filename to the rrd file: /usr/local/nagios/nagiosgraph/rrd/backupserver_PING_ping.rrd (debug shows no problems) here is the output:
Data Source Debug

/usr/local/rrdtool-1.2.12/bin/rrdtool create \
/usr/local/nagios/nagiosgraph/rrd/backupserver_PING_ping.rrd \
--step 300 \
DS:rta:GAUGE:600:0:100 \
DS:losspct:GAUGE:600:0:100 \
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:1:600 \
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:6:700 \
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:24:775 \
RRA:AVERAGE:0.5:288:797 \
RRA:MAX:0.5:1:600 \
RRA:MAX:0.5:6:700 \
RRA:MAX:0.5:24:775 \
RRA:MAX:0.5:288:797 \

4. from device, I go to 'Create Graphs for this host', and select my graph template. Debug output:
RRDTool Command:

/usr/local/rrdtool-1.2.12/bin/rrdtool graph - \
--imgformat=PNG \
--start=-86400 \
--end=-300 \
--title="Backup Server - Nagios Ping Results" \
--base=1000 \
--height=120 \
--width=500 \
--alt-autoscale \
--vertical-label="ms" \
--slope-mode \
DEF:a="/usr/local/nagios/nagiosgraph/rrd/backupserver_PING_ping.rrd":losspct:AVERAGE \
DEF:b="/usr/local/nagios/nagiosgraph/rrd/backupserver_PING_ping.rrd":rta:AVERAGE \
COMMENT:"" \
COMMENT:""
5. I added the server to graph trees and when I go to graphs and select it, I get no graph. Just a title, and a magnifying glass. Click the hourglass, then the wrench and this is the output:
/usr/local/rrdtool-1.2.12/bin/rrdtool graph - \
--imgformat=PNG \
--start=1172529112 \
--end=1172615512 \
--title="Backup Server - Nagios Ping Results" \
--base=1000 \
--height=120 \
--width=500 \
--alt-autoscale \
COMMENT:"From 2007/02/26 16\:31\:52 To 2007/02/27 16\:31\:52\c" \
COMMENT:" \n" \
--vertical-label="ms" \
--slope-mode \
DEF:a="/usr/local/nagios/nagiosgraph/rrd/backupserver_PING_ping.rrd":losspct:AVERAGE \
DEF:b="/usr/local/nagios/nagiosgraph/rrd/backupserver_PING_ping.rrd":rta:AVERAGE \

I would appreciate any help very much. Please let me know if more info is needed.
Thank You.

ahhh, I see I am getting '].last_ds = "UNKN"' in my rrd file... would this cause the graph to not display at all? Well, I will have to fix this tomorrow and see.
