datasource length limited to 19 characters?
We are trying to collect some dhcp stat info. Some of the data source names that we are trying to use are longer than 19 characters. Is there a reason why the data source name is limited to this many characters?
I'm trying to edit a data template which has 9 data source items attached to it. I'm not able to enter a data source item name longer than 19 characters.
Could I get away with changing the data_template_rrd.data_source_name field from 19 to 30? I think I would have to edit the php file to allow more than 19 characters as well. Is this a valid fix or would there be more work involved?
I'm using Cacti 8.6h btw.

ya didn't want to edit the php file, but It also seems like the database field that holds that value is also limited to 19 characters.. just wanting to know if there is any reason. Also, if I change these two values to a larger length, would that screw anything else up.. guess it's best not to do anything and work around it.
Oh well.
Thanks for the help =)

Hi
I'm afraid this is a RRDtool limitation :
This is from the rrdcreate manpage (1.2.18 version).
I'm afraid this is a RRDtool limitation :
Code: Select all
DS:ds-name:DST:dst arguments
ds-name is the name you will use to reference this particular
data source from an RRD. A ds-name must be 1 to 19 characters
long in the characters [a-zA-Z0-9_].
