Help With Nortel 8600

Post by linsys2 »

All,
I am having trouble graphing interface stats on the Nortel 8600 Series devices. I have walked the MIB tree and have found that my ifindex for that particular interface is not matching up with the IPaddress associated to that switch. Its Layer 3 switch so the ipaddress is not tied to a particular interface. Can any give me a hand in putting together and interface SNMP Query. I have looked at the HOW-To add a new MIB variable but still a bit lost.

Thanks!

Thanks for getting back to me. I apologize it got into the wrong forum. I did look at that document, but was also browsing and some folks have also expressed issues in graphing layer 3 switches. I guess I could use the exact OID that matches the ipaddress and ifindex. If I did that I would have to create a sepereate data template for each IP Address tied to the vlan on the Layer 3 switch. Correct? Could you recommend a better way to do this?

Correct, so that's not really the efficient way to do that.

Take a look at the guides listed at that link (and in general doc page). You really want to create a snmp script using the xml file. That way the creation and subsequent refreshes of the OIDs when they change, are dynamic. A good example of what you want to model after is the existing snmp traffic template that comes with cacti. Look in your /cacti/resources/snmp_scripts/traffic.xml for a example.
