Plugin Architecture cacti-0.8.6i problem

hi all
i have a problem
First my cacti works very much .
cacti version 0.8.6i,workdir /var/www/html/cacti
After i installed cacti-plugin-arch with commond "patch" ,cacti doesn't work.
#tar xzvf cacti-plugin-arch.tar.gz
#cd cacti-plugin-arch
#cp cacti-plugin-0.8.6i.diff /var/www/html/cacti
#cd /var/www/html/cacti
#patch -p1 -N < cacti-plugin-0.8.6i.diff
# vi include/config.php



But if i copy /usr/local/src/cacti-plugin-arch/files-0.8.6i to /var/www/html/cacti
after vi /var/www/html/cacti/include/config.php,cacti works ok.

why ?

Not too sure, but the second technique that you used is more apropriate IMHO. It's a large update and applying a patch does not strike me as reliable. Being traditionally a Windows user until about a year ago, you might understand why.
