Loosing connectivity

Post by fiksve »

Hi, and thanks for a great product!

I work for a company that wishes to employ cacti for monitoring electonical sensors, and provide trendlines and timebased statistics. We already have an active pilot (Monitoring an automated saw in a live production facility) which has been running for almost a year, and cacti really has performed admirably.

The setup is on an embedded micropc, a PII266 Mhz with 256 MB RAM. We have also modified cacti to poll every 10th second, populating four charts with data -- But all logs and stats indicates that there are enough resources, and that the systems are well adjusted.

The only problem is that we loose connection with the webserver from time to time. This only happens when a user remains logged in for 10 minutes or so, then we cant communicate at all with the webserver for 5-10 minutes. But no data has been lost, the system continues to poll and store data, and everything is back to normal.

Anybody know whats causing this? Could it be some exotic PHP setting or something like that?

Are you able to perform a tcpdump or a wireshark (formally ethereal) trace of such an event?

Hmmm...very interesting..

It is a remote machine, but I got a ssh port to. So I installed and used tcpdump. The output was mainly gibberish network traffic, nothing of interest .. But the site did not die!

I closed the ssh link, waited for a while and it went sour again (This only happens with automatic refreshes -- Its okay as long as there is user interaction). I dont think this is a cacti related issue, there must be something about the webserver configuration :(

Ill think Ill have to review my php ini..any pointers?
