All devices have same graphs as localhost using 0.8.6i

Post by chakatz »

Hi,

I have three linux (RHEL4) boxes with Cacti Version 0.8.6i (new install, not upgrade) and all the patches for that version installed.

The problem is that all thee systems show the same four graphs. I have concluded that they are the graphs of the localhost that cacti is installed on. (So one out of the three devices are showing the proper graphs). They are not the same graphic file as indeed each device name is properly located at the top of the graph; the data however is the same. I have entered the name of each device in the Hostname field and the SNMP Information does show up properly on the top of each device's configuration page. There are no errors in the logs and I have activated logging on the poller as well, just to be sure.

I did notice that the log entry refers to 4 Hosts and I only have three devices configured:
OK u:0.00 s:0.00 r:0.01
OK u:0.00 s:0.00 r:0.01
...
...
OK u:0.00 s:0.text/html
X-Powered-By: PHP/4.3.9

I've searched around and didn't find anything. Any ideas?

TIA

Please make sure not to use "Local Linux Machine" for your hosts. Nor use the Templates used there. They will only query your localhost. Use those net-snmp templates instead

Thanks for the tip.

I got it working by selecting either "Generic SNMP-enabled Host" or "ucd/net SNMP Host". Both work.

I'd like to suggest that you rename "Local Linux Machine" to "Localhost (Linux) Machine". I wasn't sure myself but I thought that Local could mean Local Network.
Also I suggest changing the template names from "Unix - ..." to "Localhost (Unix) - ..." or "Unix (Localhost) - ..."

I admit though that I am new to Cacti and to SNMP. Now it makes a bit more sense but for the uninitiated I think my suggestions above are less ambiguous.

Fantastic project, You guys do great work!

Thanks a lot!
