I want to create graph templates that are associated with a data query that purely graphs values derived from existing data sources from that query.
Lets say data query "foo" returns 4 fields. I have 1 graph that plots fields 1 and 2; I have another graph that plots fields 3 and 4. I want to create a 3rd graph that plots 1 div. by 3 and another graph that plots 2 div. by 4. But, when you associate a graph template with a data query, it creates new data sources.
is this possible to do without creating duplicate data sources?
graph template for data query with existing data sources

so it's not possible
i knew i could do that, but i wanted to associate an additional graph template with the data query for disk I/O I created, so that the device will create the graphs for each of the disks in the system.
just like for interfaces, you have a generic traffic graph, and you will get X traffic graphs for X interfaces. to have to do it through graph management makes it quite tedious and not always possible to determine which disk you're picking a data source from.
thanks though

Well, you're absolutely correct in all aspects. Currently, there are two ways
- omitting "doubled" rrd files: this is the way you've shown
- accepting "doubled" rrd files: Creating Graph Templates and generating all Graphs from there. Easy to use, but wasts space
To be honest, there's at least a third and fourth way to do so. But this would be merely academic.
And, soon, there will be a new way to do so, combining the good features of both ways above. I've a new plugin, called Aggregate, that will reuse existing rrd file and is (I hope so) easy to use. It's already running (at least on my laptop), but the Template stuff is not yet complete.
I will show this, hopefully, on 1. European Cacti Community Conference, 6/7th of January, 2007 at Bochum

Please find a new approach via "Aggregate Plugin". Please comment.
