devices still being polled with SNMP

Post by mmcgrew »

Good morning,

I am working with Cacti, and am trying to get the polling script working properly.

I am noticing that the 'udp ping' option doesn't seem to be consistent.

I have 'Downed Host Detection' set to 'Ping - Faster with risk'. I have it set to use 'UDP Ping'.

Now, this seems to only work sometimes. I have one device that it's polling properly with UDP ping, but when I add new devices, it is still trying to poll them with SNMP.

The problem is, these devices are not SNMP capable devices, so it always shows the device status as 'Unknown' or 'down', which makes it impossible to create a datasource for the device.

When I look in the logs of the new device I added, it is showing that the cacti server is still sending udp/161 which is SNMP.

Any ideas how to disable the SNMP polling, and use strictly UDP ping?

Thanks in advance.

To add on to this, I don't even see the new device being polled whatsoever.

I have the logging turned up to the max, and am watching for messages.

I do not see it attempt to poll it. I have 2 other devices of the same type that are being polled correctly.

Any ideas?
