Cannot edit graph titles any more

Post by patters »

I have previously edited some graph names fine, but now when I try to edit a graph in Console -> Graph Management, I no longer get offered any choices other than those below. I know there used to be more fields than this, and I have just got a friend to confirm this is the case on another install of Cacti. This problem occurs for new graphs, as well as ones I have previously edited.

Could this have been caused by importing some XML templates which have broken the standard ones? If so, can someone tell me which files I would need to overwrite with the ones from the distro?

I'm using Cacti 0.8.6i for Win32 (Server 2003) with IIS6.0, MySQL 5.0.27, PHP 5.1.6. I'm using the cactid binary and net-snmp too.

Thanks.

The titles of Data Queries are handled by "Suggested Names" of the "Graph Template" found when editing the Data Query

I'm not sure I follow. That would presuppose I wanted to edit the default title for all graphs using a particular query (in this case SNMP - Interface Statistics). I don't - I just want to label an individual graph. The option used to be there, and now it isn't. As I said, I have got a friend to look at the same page I have shown a screenshot of, and there are additional options not showing on my install, which were there until I started importing XML templates. Notice I labelled the graph above to contain the words "Link to Firewall". It seems I cannot change this now.

Would I be able to force things back to the default behaviour if I got this friend to export the datasource XML from his working install? Or would I need the graph template XML? I don't really know which component I have corrupted.

Sorry for misunderstanding.
Please select the appropriate graph template and check the box left to the title to request per graph title option. Now go back to that very graph and change the graph title.
Be prepared to being asked for a new title each time this graph template is used from now on. Or uncheck the box again.

Nice one! Thanks a lot - that's worked. I had seen that option, but I wasn't sure if it would mess the other graphs up since I hadn't changed it.

Can template imports sometimes mess with settings like this if they were created for earlier versions of Cacti?

Definitively, yes. They simply overwrite everything, taht might already be in place. When importing, you see those update statements. It is not said, that this corrupts existing data. But you simply do not know ...
This becomes a case especially when importing into some non-standard cacti or when export was done on non-standard system...
So, better to import to a test system first and to check all items that where flagged as updated

Thanks for this. I had seen some unexpected updates after the imports I made, but since I'm new to Cacti, I didn't think to save them. I'll keep a closer eye on them in future.
