Is there anyway i can change the syslog on cacti ?
is it using the webinterface or do u actuaally have to get into the console and change it because, i am not getting any error messages from my switches when i click on the syslog tab on cacti i am trying to monitor any errors i get from the riverstone switches.
Even when i purposley telnet and make errors on my switch it doesnt show on the cacti syslog tab
Can anyone help thanks in advance

You might want to pull out your handy dandy sniffer and sit outside of that device and verify the traffic that it is passing. Look for udp port 162. That would be a trap. O wait, you were talking about Syslog right?

Have you setup your Cacti server's syslog client to actually log to mysql (including remote syslog messages)? With syslog-ng has the FIFO file been created? Is it being populated with results from syslog-ng? Do you have a script running to pull the results from the FIFO file to MySQL?
All these things are required for syslog-ng, msyslog is much easier to use, but then again, its not as robust.
