have the devices push their syslogs to the Cacti server running haloe.

Optionally, add the devices to /etc/hosts to get names instead of ip addresses. not sure if haloe works with dns or not - I don't use dns res for my management network

Sourceforge has a free app call NTSyslog you can add on any Windows Server and you can point syslogs, eventlogs, etc to your syslog server....it works pretty nice.

IN the haloe config you can specify to use DNS........you dont have to use your host file at all....
