Dell PowerConnect 2724

Post by gfk »

Hi,

I'm beginning to use Cacti to graph my network activity and it's pretty easy to set up. However, I'd like to graph the ports on a Dell PowerConnect 2724, a value gigabit switch that doesn't support SNMP.

The switch supports RMON statistics but only on the switch's web interface, not using SNMP. I guess I could make a web scraper to get the data, but I'm hoping that someone has a ready-made solution.

So is there anyone out there who already does that?

Thanks a lot,

I'd be interested in this as well, although I *think* it may just not be very practical. I have the lower-version 2716, and the web interface seems awfully slow and impractical to get web data from it from a script.
(There doesn't seem to be a shortcut URL for getting rmon data)

A workaround I'm applying for this at the moment is to poll the interfaces of the devices that are connected to it (which do support snmp), and not poll the switch interfaces. Probably not what you want.

It's a shame that dell doesn't support snmp, should be a brease to implement for them but they probably want to sell more of the expensive switches.

http://<IP>/portStats.htm

I found this perl script:

http://www.iqcc.se/scripts/fetch_stat/

which does the job, I will try to hook it up to cacti now

Did you get this working with cacti?

I've just started playing with cacti (I've used MRTG for years and years :) ), so if someone else has already figured out how to do this...

See first link of my sig for a start. Use wget for the given URL to fetch raw data and parse for the data you're interested in
