Multiple Instances - Eating Resources

Post by mmX »

Hello,

I have inherited a Cacti monitoring system with a MySQL backend. Recently there have been problems...
If I check my processes (ps), every 5 minutes there are 4 processes added: 2 MySQL processes and 2 Cacti process (cmd.php and script_server.php).
This pushes the CPU on the machine to 100% and leaves it pretty much unusable.
I'm pretty new to this stuff, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
mmX

Sounds right...

Are you still getting graphs? How many devices are you monitoring and what are a majority of the devices, IE, servers, switches, routers, etc?

What hardware and OS is this running on? How much memory does the system have? What is the disk I/O sub system?

Okay, so all those process listings are right... good to know.

I'm not getting graphs, just broken images.
A majority of the systems I'm monitoring are switches, mainly used to watch what kind of load they are handling.

It's running Fedora Core 3 with 512 RAM.

Ok, switch the poller logging into debug, this is done from the settings. Then take a look at the log, anything stand out to help you with this issue?
