Cacti Migration to new server

Post by rapidhost »

Hi,
We have been running SNMP/Cacti to monitor our systems for some time now, without any problems. However, we've recently had a problem with the server running Cacti, and need to migrate it to a new server.
I have hunted through the forum and docs but cannot find a definative migration method. Installing Cacti and getting it up and running if fine, but how would I import the existing data/rrd's/graphs etc?
We currently run Cacti on Fedora Core 4, and the new machine will be something similar (FC5/RHEL).

In the past when I have migrated cacti from box to box I get cacti running on the new box, then I copy the old cacti install from the old to the new and do a database transfer from the old to the new.

Then its just a matter of getting the dbname/username/password for the database changed if they are different and you are good to go.

If you get it timed right you can get it done with no gaps in the graphs.

That sounds grand emericklaw. Thanks.
i will procede this way, and almost have the new box up and running.
Could I please just confirm exactly *what* needs transfering?

I presume the db and the .rrd files (in "rra" dir) need to be transfered, but is there anything else?

Cheers.

I just make a copy of the whole cacti folder. There may be custom scripts and plugins that would stop working if you just copied the rra's and DB.
