Cisco Interface Question

Post by kpmas »

Hi there...

Just starting to use Cacti and love it so far!

What I'd like to know is when I graph ethernet interfaces, they work great - but how do I change the interface description to show it's actual description or ifalias from the configuration?

I've used some other tools in the past that would either pick this information up via snmp and/or at least let you manually add a description (which I'm fine with - just need to know what options and how)

Thanks in advance.

I suppose you are using the Interface Data Query to graph the interfaces.

If so you can modify the Associated Graph Templates of the Data Query "SNMP - Interface Statistics" and add your specific name and title for the Data Sources and Graphs that will be generated.
The |query_names| are taken from the xml file that is shown in the general Data Query options.

Remark: You have to move your name/title to the highest position to use it.

Any idea on how to make the ifAlias text to show more than 15 letters?

I have many interfaces that have more than 15 letter description (eg. *** 16Mbps Leased Line to MyISP ***) and it does get cut on the generated image (max 15 characters).

Does anybody know how to change that?

EDIT: I just found it: It's in Settings -> Visual -> Maximum Field Length (The maximum number of characters to display for a data query field.) 8)
