Many use remote scripts using either 'rsh' or 'ssh'.

Others can use CIM from OpenPegusus.org. This is what Microsoft uses for their WMI counters. They claim CIM compliance, yet no one on Linux can access it due to it's use of DCOM, which is not so open. So, if you ask the OpenPegusus guy's, they are not so cheerful.

Linux host can access Window WMI counters via a slim web service (published suprisingly by Microsoft).

I guess there are several ways.

First, you must deploy the Plugin architecture at www.cactiusers.org, then add the Monitor plugin just like any other.

Does not the manage plugin do what you want ?? http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=13827
I think it is the right one for you.
for webpage request I've done a request in the manage plugin forum.

If you want do a manual request for testing a webpage I have done a change in the tools plugin for my needs (see http://cactiusers.org/forums/topic469.html). If you cannot wait the answer of the plugin's creator, I can give you my changed files (only for Tools plugin).
