Monitor an Application

What would be the steps so monitor an application. I am trying to monitor Backup Exec. I read the documentation and it will send traps. It also has the MIBs needed on the CD as well as the OID are listed in the help file.

Do I need to send the traps to a syslog server and then try and pull the information from there into Cacti?

Any help would be great

Cacti can not currently collect snmp trap data (although I saw a feature request for an addon the other day). Nor does cacti use MIB files.
