I'd like to start using some plugins with my installation of Cacti. I didn't install the plugin architecture when I first installed Cacti, so now I have a fully configured cacti installation with no plugin architecture.
I've read the documentation that comes with the cacti_plugin_arch tar file as well as the documentation on the Cacti forums, but I can't find an answer to my particular question.
The documentation that I've read so far says that I should only install the patch to a fresh cacti installtion that hasn't been configured yet.
What will happen to my installation if I install the cacti_plugin_arch by using the method of simply copying the files in the tarball into my cacti directory (not actually running the patch command)? Will it blow my installation up?
I've already backed up the database as well as the cacti directory, but I haven't had the guts to try and copy the files into my cacti directory yet to see for myself.
If you have tried this and can give me some insight, I will be forever grateful.

Re: Plugin Architecture with existing installation
I had no problem taking an existing, configured installation of cacti and adding the plugin architecture. The architecture has an updated configuration file, so make sure you have your database information recorded before you overwrite it.
Well, I'd recommend you back up the entire cacti installation before trying this.

Have you read the docs at http://cactiusers.org/wiki/PluginArchitectureInstall?

Well, I finally got around to trying the installation of the plugin architecture by copying the patched files into the installation directory.
Worked like a charm. I edited the /include/config.php file and I was up and running in about 3 minutes. I never even missed a poll.
Many thanks to the good folks at cactiusers.org!
