Linksys 4-port home router

Post by DavidM »

Anyone know how to setup Cacti to monitor my Linksys 4-port router?

Do I need to download a MIB? From my understanding, if logging is turned on within the Router's Admin page, it will send SNMP Traps.

Thanks

I have a Linksys router too, that just acts as a four port switch. I haven't been keeping up with the latest firmware, but last time I checked it didn't have a built in SNMP agent. It did send traps, but you cannot get traffic statistics from this data alone.

It is possible to pull out SNMP from Linksys WRT54G. Just use a modifed firmware. Works fine with me.

Standard snmp interface traffic one works. It might also have OIDs for wireless strength, you'll just have to either get the Linksys MIB and look or walk it.

www.dd-wrt.com is probably one of the best firmwares for a wrt54g. STAY AWAY FROM SVEASOFT!! they abuse the GPL and their business practices are very questionable at best, I would not trust giving this company any money.

anyway, dd-wrt works great for monitoring. By default cacti will pick up about 7 different graphs, but I know you can get cpu usage, wifi/vlanx/bridge/internet stats off it, I don't think wifi S/N is reported, but I don't use wifi so didn't investigate that..

I want to buy this Router from Netgear (DG834GB) with built in modem.
But on the Website theres no information over SNMP support.

Can u tell me whether it has or not?

Is SNMP Support a rarity or more common on routers about
75€/$?

Hi

usually "cheap" DSL modems / routeurs do not provide an SNMP agent.

The alternate DD-WRT firmware supports these devices :
* Linksys WRT54G v1.0, v1.1, v2.0, v2.2, v3.0, v3.1, v4.0 (NOT v5.0)
* Linksys WRT54GS v1.0, v1.1, v2.0, v2.1, v3.0, v4.0
* Asus WL-500G deluxe (since the 2005-11-01 release of v23beta2)
* Siemens SE505
* Motorola WR850G (since the 2005-11-07 release of v23beta2)[/list]

The ZyXEL brand of SOHO routers all comes with SNMP support (I've got the P334W).
