Creating Graph with combined data from multiple ports

Post by opt8low »

I want to take multiple ports SNMP data and combine this data on one graph to get a total. Can this be done? If it can, how would I go about it?

I have managed to get the data graphing on one graph but each port has it's data showing, not a total. I am sure I am missing something stupid. I have looked and looked but with no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dana

You may find hints when seacrhing for "Overview Graphs" in the Forum.
1. Goto Graph Management and ADD
2. Leave Template and Host to NONE and Create
3. Fill main Graph Data as usual for Graph Templates
4. Then select each Graph Item you want to see on the Graph (and Legends, of course)
5. Place this new Graph on a Tree of your liking

Attention: on large installations, Step 4 will be time-consuming

Thanks for the info. I am having problems understanding your directions. I go to graph management and create a graph with none and none. Then I pick a graph template and give it a title and go to save. Get to this point then I am lost. (Happens a lot :-)

I have done a search a couple of times with no luck. I am pretty sure I am missing something stupid. So any more help would be appreciated.

Thanks again,

Well done, so far. Now you've reached Step 4 of my description. See the Add link for Graph Items, select this to find a list of all possible data sources to select for Graphing. If in doubt, please send a screenshot of the last step you finished successfully

cant save graphs

Post by Skaven »

I got a problem when creating these graphs..

I do it exactly the same way as Linegod explained in: http://forums.cacti.net/about5703-0-asc-0.html

But when i have added all the different data sources + total, and save, it doesn't exist in the Graph Management overview..
No predefined graph template or host is chosen since i cant choose specific data sources then.

Yep, the link is the correct one. Please scroll to the last page of Graph Management, perhaps you'll find it there

Code: Select all

04/25/2006 10:34:41 AM - CMDPHP: Poller[0] ERROR: SQL Assoc Failed "select id,column_name from graph_template_input where graph_template_id="

Creating Graph with combined data from multiple ports

Reinhard,

Thanks again for you reply. I will add a screen shot here of the point were you last responded. In this screen shot I am done with step 4 of your instuctions. Do I need to pick a graph templete for this step? IF I do I want total bandwidth/ Bits for the total of all ports. When I pick that templete Cacti asks to change the graph, when I save it, The graph disappears.
I am sure I am missing more then one thing in your steps, but can't tell what. Any more help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Dana

Hi Dana

You have only added comments as your graph items. You need to create this as you would if you were creating items for a graph template except this time you use the host DS that you want.

Here is an example where i have just added a gprint for only the last data collected. You can of course collect minimum and maximum and average if you want to, its very time consuming though.

I should have been more precise. You picked the data sources using "COMMENT", but it is necessary to choose LINx or AREA/STACK to create the DEF statement needed for rrdtool

How did you create the Data Source

Traffic: Port 21
How did you specify the port ?

Hi

I initially created the graphs for all the live ports on that switch. This then creates the data sources for traffic in and out for each live port. I then used the data sources which were created in the new combined graph.

I have attached the screenshot so you can see for yourself.
