If this has already been posted, I apologize. We are currently running cacti version 0.8.6c with rrdtool version 1.0.50. We plan on implementing holt-winters forcasting in the near future and want to upgrade rrdtool to 1.2.x. Are there any known problems between the version of cacti we are running and the 1.2 series of rrdtool?
Thanks,
Gary

Personally, we are running this since some months without problems. Following has been reported but not investigated by me:
- complex graph statements should perform better (lots better, if REALLY complex)
- output is bigger in size, especially when it comes to advanced features (fonts, slope mode, ...)
- graph syntax has changed a bit. cacti cares for that, but if you have some home-grown rrdtool utilities, you may have to pay attention
Additionally, I've encountered following facts:
- rrdtool 1.0.x produces a file format of type 0001, wheras 1.2.x produces 0003
- rrdtool 1.2 can read type 0001 formats, but the other way round won't work
- rrdtool 1.2 incorporates lots of nice and useful extensions apart from Holt-Winters (which will be incorporated into cacti starting with 0.9)
I recommend at least rrdtool 1.2.12

You need to upgrade your Cacti version to support RRDtool 1.2.

For RRDTool 1.2.x support, you need to at least go to 0.8.6d. But there where a lot of security fixes, ultimatly I would suggest 0.8.6h.
And just to throw a wrench in this discussion, 0.8.6i should be coming out end of this month, being of next month.
