mysql_pconnect(): Client does not support authentication

I am installing Cacti from scratch and run into this problem when I started it. Where would I get another MySQL client that works. Any suggestion.

Warning: mysql_pconnect(): Client does not support authentication protocol requested by server; consider upgrading MySQL client in /export/debugtools/cacti-0.8.6h/lib/adodb/drivers/adodb-mysql.inc.php on line 355

Version:
MySQL: 5.0,19
RRDTool: 1.2.12
php: 4.4.42
Cacti:0.8.6h with no patch
Apache 1.3.x
Platform: Redhat Enterprise 3

You need to enable "old password" support in MySQL. Please research on this forum, you will find your answer.
