Question on ping latency graphs and DOWN hosts

Post by leonardo_gyn »

Hello Guys,

I have been successfully using the ping latency template found at http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?t=3517. Anyway, im having a situation and i would like some help.

Actually im running poller with Downed Host Detection = Ping and SNMP, which is the most recommended by cacti itself.

During tests of blocking icmp with iptables, i could successfully graph the 100% packet loss situation, which my modified script returns round trip 0 and packetloss 100. But when host is real down (no ping and no snmp), host goes down and graph stops being updated, giving me a blank hole on the graph.

On the attached image, we can see a block icmp situation(red spot), but host is still UP for cacti, because SNMP is already accessible, so data is queried and updated. But we can also see some real DOWN situations, and I couldnt have the red on the graph.

Question: is it possible to have the 'no data' data graphed differently ? Is there any ping latency template that will correctly graph situations where host is DOWN and not queried by cacti ?? Is this (graphing something when host is DOWN) possible with cacti 0.8.6h and rrdtool 1.2.10 ?? If anyone can help me, i would be very glad :D

Thanks for your attention and answers,
Sincerily,
Leonardo Rodrigues

red spots = icmp blocked with iptables but host still UP because SNMP is available
<br />blank spots = *REAL* down situations, host goes down on cacti and graph is not queried/updated
