guide to setup cacti

hi sir,

I am a newbie to cacti. I went to cacti site and followed the instructions to setup cacti on my linux box but I was unable to get it right.
I have a few queries:
Would you like guide me to setup cacti on my machine.

1. To run cacti, is it necessary that rrdtool must be up and running?
2. Where the cacti.tar should be extracted and placed?
3. is cactid-tar.gz is required for this setup to work?

Please help me.
