push data through syslog-ng

Post by lilliput »

I got here a syslog-ng server to centralised all the syslog entries.

I started to create few scripts to run from a crontab and to send different informations - mostly informations/stats about the system - through some really simple crontab command.

The main advantage for me is that the park is quite different - redhat mandrake and some other home made linux.

This trick was letting me to create something really simple on the client side which doesn't require an extra service - ie security risks -

Was wondering if someone did have some scripts to parse the syslog-ng entries and directly write the entried in the rrd file.

(for the moment syslog-ng push the entries in a pipe file and I parse this pipe through a daemon and generate some gnuplot compatible file) but the graphs that I get are not as nice.

(I monitore network mem hdd cpu for the moment - I was thinking about NFS and samba scripts - number of user and lock file and status of the daemon - )
