Can someone explain to me how thold (kilobytes/bits..etc)

I'm new....I'm tryign to set thresholds up and cant figure out the conversion....is thold in kilobytes/bits/bytes....etc. So i want to monitor an interface, and if it drops below 1mb bandwidth , what would my threshold be? 1000000? I cant find any documentation , even in the cacti manual on this stuff.
