No data in graphs for this nubie

Hello,

Just setup Cacti on Windows 2003 SP1 box with IIS6 (not Apache), and trying to collect simple out of the box data on local host and one remote machine.

Everything seems to be working, but I am getting no data in my graphs. I switched the poller to use cactid as I read in BSOD2600's install instructions, but now my scheduled task just hangs and never even writes a log. So I have two problems:

1) Using cmd.php I get no apparent graph data
2) Using Cactid, the scheduled tasks just hang

Also in the install sheet, it says I should see rrd files in the /cacti/rrd directory. I do not have this directory. I have a rrn directory with some rrd files in it, but no rrd directory. Is that just a typo?

Any tips for this newbie?

OK - I stand corrected. I am getting data for cmd.php for the localhost. But the remote host is still not showing any data. Is there something I need to do to get remote hosts to work? I see SNMP information for the remote host. I can see the drives, the CPU, and the NIC for the server when I go to create the charts, and they look correct. For example, the remote host has a C: and a D: drive and it sees both of those. But yet it will graph any data for them.

And still I have the problem with cactid hanging the scheduled task if I use that instead of cmd.php.

Any ideas?

1) oops on my part. You're right, you should be getting *.rrd files in the /rra directory.

2) For the remote hosts having problems, the verbose queries on Mounted Partitions and Interface Statistics, return valid data? If so, are rrd files created for these hosts?

3) What versions of everything are you running?

4) For your cactid problem, turn the logging level in cacti to debug then manually run cactid.exe and see what the error(s) are. Paste the log here if needed.

Hey BSOD (or can I call you BlueScreen?) - thanks for the response.

I have some more information. I am starting to see more information creep in. The NIC for the external box is working. But nothing else. I then deleted the data sets for the disks and CPU, recreated them and I am now seeing data for one of the disks but not the other. I am also not seeing any CPU data yet. For the disk that is working, I only see data on the graph for "Used Space" but no data for total space. Very wierd...

The verbose queries do return data - thats the wierd part. Everything looks like it should be working. I checked, and there are RRD files for all data sets for both hosts. For example I see a file called "myservername_cpu_18.rrd" and it has data in it and the modified data changes every 5 minutes (matching the scheduled task). Yet no data on the CPU graph for this machine.

I'll have to get back with the rest of the information you requested.

I've never had luck getting the cpu usage template that comes with cacti to work. Instead, I use the generic OID template and poll the cpu OID directly. You'll need to snmpwalk .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.3.3.1.2 to find out whats the last OID for your cpu(s).

As for the disk templates, you must update cacti to 0.8.6g and install the patches. There is a known problem with the disk templates. Also, what OS is having problems with the disk template (after patching) ?
