Oke, want to show off with the graphical results of my Cacti project. Im showing you one of the weathermaps i've made and will explain a few things about it.
The first image is the default overview of the weathermap. I've made these images myself, and the globes in the images will change if the state of the devices changes.
In this image, you can see what happens if i hold my mouse over one of the devices. The screen with SNMP data (written by MGB) will pop-up and show live information about the device. (Link to the topic)
The second image, is the tumbnail view of the weathermap. We have the weathermaps changing the background color when a device in the weathermap goes down. This displays how the background changes. (Link to the topic)
Maybe it will inspire other people for their weathermaps.

It's not that hard to make some perl/awk/etc to generate grids of nodes like that - that's what I did for my big switch maps, anyway.zeki wrote:wow lidberg that must've took a long time to setup.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.

I used an Excel spreadsheet with the coordinates on it and just filled in the port values manually. If you use formulas all you have to do is fill in the first port and the rest fall in place. Still, it took me many hours to do. Lots of trial and error, especially to get the ports exactly where I want them.
Plus, working with images in Cacti is kind of confusing. Normally, 0,0 is the top left corner of an image. With Cacti, 0,0 is the center of the image, so anything left of that is a negative number. So the top left corner of an image that is 200x200 pixels would be -100, -100. IMO, it's a pain in the ass.

P.S. I don't know perl or awk so that's why it probably took me a lot longer than normal. That and the fact that different types of switches number their ports differently. Cisco 6509's are numbered 1-48 (or 1-16 for fibre blades), but the blades are not in order. 3560's and 3750's are sequentially numbered but Cisco 3550's jump all over the place.

Some of you had requested the images I used in the map. I've included all the Cisco switches (3550, 3560, 3750, 6504, 6509, 6513) and all of the ports (red, yellow, and green for copper and fibre).

DMVPN
Hi,
this is a weathermap of our EU DMVPN routers and the US headend router, the pictures change depending on the status of the Tu1 interface (up or down, unavailable)
The link speeds are of the routers outside interface to the internet.
It's not as pretty as most, but it helps the support team.

My turn with images that represent one of our storage layout.
Setup used: cacti 0.8.7e, weather-map 0.97, monitor and thold.
Link have an infourl and overlib as do the switch endpoints, some links have an in/out infourl and overlib defined. Set link_bulge is used.
The monitor is to be used as an animated weathermap infourl/ overlib, but this is still an WIP.
The first two image configfiles are made with an xls file using previous posted file for the dashboard creation as example. The last two where created by hand.
The config (especially the radial images) files contain almost no Configuration Directives except many set hint values as almost everything is templated and defined in an include files.
The last two images use the same include file mentioned above for templates and a seperate one for the base layout. The base switches have an overlib and infourl to the radial images
