Could be context switching too. You might want to reduce the number of threads or concurrent processes. It all depends on wheter or not you have lot's of ss_* polls/queries. They like having more processes. If you are just polling snmp, then you should reduce the number of processes.

Hi all, here are my stats. I have about 500 hosts, adding more every day. My Cactid seems to be finishing very quickly, when i do a top. But, there is a PHP scrip that runs for about 3 min after that (php /var/www/html/cacti/poller.php). I have followed all the steps in improve my performance. Including running RRD 1.2 with the mem option, adjusting my my.cnf file for MySQL etc.
I am using the latest Cactid running Cacti 0.8.6e.
I want to put about 1K hosts on this thing but the way things are looking its not going to be possible.
The machine is running Fedora Core 3, 1 gig of ram and dual Xeon processors.

From my perspective, run the ugly script in a cron job all by itself, output it's information to a file and then create a small script to recover the data from the file and place the information in a graph.
Then Cacti will not be dependent on that slow script

I'm a little disappointed. But I understand that RRDtool 1.2.11 with Memory Mapped I/O accounts for a 3x performance increase. Just don't know if Cygwin will support it.

Hi,
My metrics :
11/20/2005 01:07:50 AM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:169.9886 Method:cactid Processes:6 Threads:4 Hosts:150 HostsPerProcess:25 DataSources:1614 RRDsProcessed:859
11/20/2005 01:02:38 AM - SYSTEM STATS: Time:158.4257 Method:cactid Processes:6 Threads:4 Hosts:150 HostsPerProcess:25 DataSources:1614 RRDsProcessed:859

Are these stats normal? I find it rather slow. I have tried already several poller-settings, but still the same speed. What I find strange is, that I use cactiD, but only changing the amount of processes has influence on the polling-speed. Changing threads does not seem to have any influence. I ran cactid with 6 processes and 24 threads, but no change.
Should I check somewhere else, or is this normal?
Specs :
Dual Xeon 3Ghz
3Gig RAM
Windows 2003
MySQL 4.1.8
cacti 0.8.6g + all patches
cactid 0.8.6f-1

Run DEBUG for 1 pass and post your output to a separate thread. We'll see.
