This is not the case. The issue with update speed id directly related to the systems ability to READ/WRITE data FROM/TO disks. Trust me on this, I have been a Cacti developer for a loooonnnnnggg time.

With 8GBytes of RAM, you should be able to, even with 1 process/processor be able to update WAY fast. You have a disk subsystem or a disk caching issue in Solaris.
