I can't seem to get the template for rfc1643 to graph. I think it has some conflict with one of the templates that comes with cacti. Anyone else get this working with version 0.8.6j ?

Index Type
Index Value
Output Type ID
Hello, I think you try to use the graph template without specifying the interface you use, in that way, you must specify it filling the fields like this :

Index Type : ifName
Index Value : (the interface of the switch you want to monitor) eg : 2/e1
Output Type ID : In/Out Bits

Neverthless, the best way to make this template run is to select the interface you want to monitor, then select the type of graph you want, and finally create the graph.

Cordially.

Does this script works for Unmanaged switch also

Post by smitesh.kharecha »

Hi all,

Can someone tell me whether this script works for unmaged switches also.

And if works how it can identify a specific switch

And if it doesn't I request developer to develop some thing for unmanage switches also...

Thanks...

If it's an unmanaged switch, that means it doesn't support SNMP, therefore no, this wouldn't work with it, unmanaged switches have no way of retrieving information from them.

simply no!
eventually you can monitor the traffic of a specific port through a TAP (a device that replicate the incoming traffic to 2 distinct ports, so you can attach a sniffer to one of this ports), but it's more expensive than buy a managed switch
