OK Howie - I think I am in need of elementary education..
the user that would be used to update the MySQL database is the user defined in the /include/global.php user correct?
I was able to generate an ERROR 1 time only but can not get it to reporduce..
error was specific to the superlinks setup.php and happened when i renmaded the superlinks dir to super and the plugin entry in the global.php file to super as well.
Error was :
Warning include-once (/usr/local/cacti/plugins/superlinks/setup.php BLAH BLAH
bottom line it told me that the plugin manager was in fact reading the setup.php but if seems to NOT be connecting to the DB to create the tables.
SOOOO - the user that should be doing the updates "should" be the user defined in global.php right???
Superlinks 0.8 PIA 2.4 - No Superlinks in REALM permissions

Are you new to IT?
BLAH BLAH?
Yes it should be that user.

Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

LOLOLOL!
No - just didn't see the point typing out the error.. my point was that it was reading the setup.php file (or atleast trying to)
thanks - I thought so.. so when iu try to access the DB with that user name and pasword that user does not have rights to even log into the db. Going to pursue that route and see what happens.
Thanks a lot... and BLAH BLAH!

If there's an error while reading setup.php, that's probably the problem!!
So the fix is just to change that yadda yadda yadda.

Howie _ I installed this at home on a brand new install of cacti 0.8.7e on CentOS
works perfectly without an issue - I think that user cactiuser was never added as a user to the DB nor was it ever granted ALL on cacti*
so thats what i will do onday. Earlier when i was creating the tables and stated all was good i was doing it as a user "cacti" that I was provided.
Really appreciate you helping me ut but the install at home this AM confirmed exactly what we are talking about.
Thanks so much - hopefully I can return the favor one day to others in this forum...
