Ok, I fixed it..

But, here was the deal, you only altered the one HRULE to in traffic, when you needed to alter COMMENT as well.

I also made it look better, hope you don't mind. :)

Ok, im on the same road, with errors.

Post by JLChafardet »

I want to create an HRULE with the 95% of the outbound traffic, and another one for the 95% of the inbound, whichever of both is higher, should show on top of the graph.

now i have been reading the manual long today, and reading this forums without any luck, this thread seemed particularly useful but in the end, all was resolved in private so no one else could learn from this.

I would love to have this same issue, solved, in public, so anyone who needs this can read and apply.

here are my screen shots, of the template, the item #12 and the graph.

At any rate, i will keep trying, if i manage to do it, I'll attach the xml with the template working (yet again if i manage to get it to work)

all help will be greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

JLChafardet

Cacti Version?

Also, add the graph item to show the comment for the other 95th you have added.

latest cacti version i downloaded it yesterday and installed it, and got it runing, im graphing and suming lots of interfaces on the switch, now i want this 95th percentile separated, one for inbound and another for outbound, and again, whichever is higher, should show on the graph. that way i can have a cool control over in and out bandidth.

I added the comment, and here are the results and screenshots.

lol just noticed the color isnt of much help, but still is not showing as it should.

By the way, i noticed im using current, when i want "max" i want the 95% of the MAXIMUM outbound bandwidth, like the max for inbound bandwidth

will change colors anyway.

if we take a look at this zoom

even the red line is wrong.

it should be a little down 800k

and the blue line should be somewhere between 400k and 500k

check it out.

by the way, don't worry about total bandwidth used, i still haven't added that sum yet, its easy to add it. what have me concerned is the 95% Inbound and 95% Outbound.

I'm actually reading the documentation, I printed it, and cant figure out what can be wrong.

First, your graph variables are not accurate.

On the HRULE it is important to use the following...

Code: Select all

|95:bits:0:current:2|
And the comment should be...

Code: Select all

|95:bits:6:current:2|
The variable breaks out like this:

Positions:
  1. 95 - Nth percentile to calculate, in this case 95th.
  2. bits - bits or bytes
  3. 6 - Base divisor, 6 = mega bits or bytes display, 3 = kilo bits or bytes.
  4. current - Nth percentile calculation, current is what you should select, as it will calculate the currently selected data sources Nth percentile value for the graph item.
  5. 2 - Number of decimal places to round to.
Make sure that you define the correct data source on the graph items when using the Nth percentile "current" calculation.

HRULE's should always have a base divisor of 0, that way the value will be correctly represented on the graph.

should I use current for both inbound and outbound? on the data source selected?

for inbound Interface_in
for outbound Interface_out

?

so I can get separated percentiles, one for inbound and another for outbound?

Attached are the template items as I have them now and the graph i got (just a minute before checking the reply.

Yes, you should use current.

Otherwise, the max that you are currently using will use the max value from any data source in that rrdtool file to calculate the highest 95th percentile.
