Re: ADVANCED Cisco CPU Utilization Template

Post by PaulPreston »

Polling every 5 seconds would be a waste of cpu cycles on both polling host and monitored host.

We had a requirement from one of our clients to monitor boxes with 30 sec granularity. The client has ended up having 1-20 ratio of monitoring servers to production servers.

I think that 5 sec cpu usage with 1 minute polling can be useful to detect spikes, or more generally to determine if cpu usage on the device significantly varies..

When setting up sub 2 minutes polling you have to tweak several options like:
Script and Script Server Timeout Value
The maximum time that Cacti will wait on a script to complete. This timeout value is in seconds

Kind Regards,

anyone can enhanced it to make it as a dedicated graph for SUP720 RP & SP?

following is the output from IOS 12.2SXF. from here you can see the latest IOS release is able to monitor RP & SP CPU utilization. i'm not sure the single CPU graph is monitoring the RP or SP. appreciate that someone can enlighten me. thanks.

#sh plat hard cap cpu
CPU Resources
CPU utilization: Module 5 seconds 1 minute 5 minutes
5 RP 6% / 0% 5% 5%
5 SP 8% / 0% 7% 6%
Processor memory: Module Bytes: Total Used %Used
5 RP 894665840 451765692 50%
5 SP 827445684 285128736 34%
I/O memory: Module Bytes: Total Used %Used
5 RP 67108864 15800320 24%
5 SP 67108864 13205416 20%

Just tried to download this template as I have found, like many others, that CPU does not seem to be accurately graphed by Cacti but the link to download is broken. I've tried another template which graphs CPU and memory usage but this doesn't seem much of an improvement over the standard Cacti CPU graphing in terms of finite accuracy (I use the template that is in the "recommended templates/addons" list).

Does this template work with the latest version of Cacti and does anyone know of somewhere else I can download it from please?

Thanks,

John
