Hi,
there is an error when I add a MacWatch: "Error: Save Failed: Field Input Error (Check Red Fields)". There is no red field and nothing is added to the db.
Next: I searched the forum but did not find any documentation about the watch and authorizations tool in mactrack. What can I do with the authentication of a mac-address? I assume that the watch tool emails a message if a mac changes the ports. If it is so how could I write an alert if a new mac is found (=a new computer was connected)

I simply ran out of time and did not get to finish the two features. I'll get back to in in the fourth quarter I hope. Otherwise, things should be pretty stable.

device type field length
is it limited to 21 chars?
we have a 3com switch its system description is
3Com 3Com Switch 5500G-EI SFP 24-Port Software Version 3Com OS V3.01.00s168
when putting in anything over 21 chars it refuses to save
i have had to use
3Com 3Com Switch 550%
not a big problem for me but the limit doesn't really allow for different versions of 5500

Use this instead
TheWitness
It looks for any part of the sysDescription. Does not have to be the entire thing.5500G-EI SFP

ignore ports question
TheWitness,
Thanks for the great plugin! I got everything works beautifully except one, ignore ports.
I dig through this post, http://forums.cacti.net/viewtopic.php?p=87599 , that was mentioned on the first page of this thread, even tried the number from the snmpwalk suggestion, but still couldn't get it to ignore those ports.
I have Cisco equipments(2960 and 3560), using IOS scan as scanner. I tried all 'Gi0/1', 'GigabigEthernet0/1' and the number from snmp walk, nothing seems to do it. Could you spare a moment and point me a direction where I can continue troubleshooting?
Thanks,
Mark

Sorry. I probably post in wrong place...
Hi
Here is my version - Device Tracking (mactrack - v1.0)
I have empty Switch name and Vendor name fields in MAC/IP report
and in mac_track_ports table are empty also...
- and one more
Ports to Ignore in Device form does't work as you can see port Fa0/7 at my attachment has some mac addresses.
What can I do to fix it ?

Larry, first I want to thank you for the great plugin!
Here are some features that will be very useful for me (about much of them I've read in this or adjacent topics):
1. The ability to delete MAC from the Report View.
Sometimes I make a mistakes in ignore ports and then I must delete the device to delete all useless MACs. Besides sometimes I receive duplicate entries - one with IP and another - without IP. If I can delete entries by hand - it will be much easier.
2. The ability to chose what to authorize - MAC, MAC-IP or IP-MAC-Port.
It's due to those duplicate entries. Or you just can add the ability to alarm only when all 3 components of IP-Mac-Port presents in rogue device entry.
3. The ability to add one device (Router) to several sites.
I have several quarters (sites) plug in to the one router. And I must include this router into all of these sites.
4. In View mode put MAC, port etc...in normal order. Such as 1,2,3,...10,11...

I've made some changes in mactrack_veiw.php and now it sorts ip_address, port_number, vlan_id in numerical form.kapa wrote: ........

I'm looking to do some rewrite of the code when I have a chance. Anything in the works currently to better integrate into Cacti.
For example:
1) Get rid of extra devices table, add devices from cacti to the "site".
2) Link device_types directly to host templates.
3) SNMPv3 support
All 3 seem easy to do but probably will require a large amount of the code to change. Let me know what you think.
NOTE: Btw line 329 in the current release has a typo in the select statement.

Just a simple request for the future versions:
mac_track_device_types.sysDescr_match
Should be a little larger than 20 characters. I'm seeing more and more devices that have a sysDescr that's rather large. I've increased mine up to 80 to take into account for some of my devices.
I'm assuming that you put the % wildcard in there to maybe compensate for larger descriptions, but I've never seen the wildcard work. Whenever I have used it, I've always seen those devices as Error.
