Anything that you think should be in Cacti.

Read non-numeric SNMP Data

Post by streaker69 »

Could a function be added to read the non-numeric data available in many of the OID's? For example, if I wanted to read a DATE that's encoded in one of my devices, I can't display it in Cacti because apparently Cacti doesn't understand a Date and basically translates it to 0.

Could a Data Query be done so that a we can read Dates or other non-numeric data and have it displayed in the bottom of a graph and not be graphed at all?

IMHO, snmp agents should implement timestamps as "timeticks", just as for SYSUPTIME. Those are plain numbers and cacti can understand them. Does your snmp agent use other units?

I don't actually want a timestamp per se. I have several dozen UPS's that I need to manage scattered among many different locations. The Battery Replacement Date is in the SNMP data, and I would like to display that date as well as possibly Location Data in my graph. Just so that at a quick glance if you get a battery replacement warning, you know when the last time the batteries were replaced and possibly if it's time to replace the unit.
