Customized Cacti Page - Flowscan functionality kind of

Post by jmjones »

I am running windows server 2003, cacti 0.8.6g

I am trying to devise a way to find where the traffic is coming from in my network.

I have a bottleneck in my network, so when a user begins "flooding the pipe", the effects are noticeable to others on the network. I have every interface on every switch and router configured for in/out bits with total bandwith, and cacti does a good job of collecting and graphing this data. The problem that I am having is that I need a way to find where the "top talkers" on the network are - which ports are passing the most data.

I am trying to create a page that will return the top 10-20 ports sorted by bandwidth in and bandwidth out and the graphs for these interfaces.

Any ideas? If this has been discussed previously, please point me in the right direction.

My initial idea was to dump all of the rra data to xml; parse the XML into a MySQL table ->Every 5 minutes (not ideal). Then build a php page to get the top talkers and display them on the page with their graphs and titles and comments, etc.

Thanks for any help

This feature is availbale with "reportit" plugin. But smallest report interval is one day. If this fits, please consider using it.
