Problem with the Map building in Cacti

Post by at9483mph »

Hi,

Am new to rrd and cacti, just installed the Cacti 0.8.6j in Ubuntu Edgy and it is working properly. I just installed the Weathermap plugins and when I tried to rebuilding the map thru the Console->Weathermap and it come out with the errors as below :

Rebuilding all maps
NOTE: Because your Cacti poller process probably doesn't run as the same user as your webserver, it's possible this will fail with file permission problems even though the normal poller process runs fine. In some situations, it MAY have memory_limit problems, if your mod_php/ISAPI module uses a different php.ini to your command-line PHP.

Can anyone advise me? Thanks.

Well, that's not an error. It's just a warning that there might be errors. Are there any errors? (further down)

You shouldn't normally need to do Recalculate Now. Wait for 5 minutes, and the maps should arrive as part of the normal poller process.
Weathermap 0.98a is out! & QuickTree 1.0. Superlinks is over there now (and built-in to Cacti 1.x).
Some Other Cacti tweaks, including strip-graphs, icons and snmp/netflow stuff.
(Let me know if you have UK DevOps or Network Ops opportunities, too!)

HI Howie, thanks for your info. Btw, I am unable to see any of the map created. Actually I also not so sure about the configurations, I just use the template example.conf from ../docs/example/ and modify it but it seem to be not working.

Can you enlighten me on the configuration or any web for the manual ? Thank you very much.

The manual is there in the docs directory! :-) (index.html)

Check your cacti.log for errors - it's probably a permission problem, especially if you haven't followed the install instructions...

Howie, I check thru the log file, it seem that everything is running properly, but the funny thing is that I am unable to see any file created in output folder. I had tried several user permissions and file permission as : www-data:www-data, cactiuser:cacti etc. and file permissions like 777, 755 etc. but still failed.

*( I had followed the steps as mentioned in the manual without missed )

I had totally run out of idea on what is going on, the only error that I got is via WebGUI as posted in the first post.

Anyone got any idea and suggestions? Thank you very much

That isn't an error. Recalculate Now always says that to warn you about possible problems.

You have nothing in the output directory? What are the ownership and permissions of that directory at the moment? For the poller to write correctly (forget recalculate now for the moment), it should be cactiuser:cacti and 755.
