Hello BSOD!!

Your installer seems really, nice (I haven't tried it yet) but, have you made an Apache version?

Thankx

Nope. No time either, too busy with my junior project for school.

PHP 5.2.2 seems to fix this problem. There is over 120 bug fixes. I was having same issues. I had www publishing services on a scheduled task to restart ever 1/2 hour for a temp fix. I took that off the scheduled task and it hasn't crashed in 4 days. It was doing it about once every couple of hours before.

Download the zip file version of php (it contains all the extensions), stop all IIS services, extract the zip file and overwrite your existing c:\php folder (except for php.ini!), start up IIS services. Thats it. From the command prompt type: php -m to verify the version and modules.

Installer Question

Post by cdiaz3 »

Hello,

New to this forum and to Cacti. I have a windows 2003 server, installed the installer from http://www.tonyroman.us/~bsod/cacti-0.8.6j.1.5.exe

rebooted the server and it did not come up. Kept getting the error messages ranging from network, upgrade bios, not enougth disk.. I'm just recalling them from memory. All the messages were with a blue background. We difficulty booting in safe mode and when we did, and then rebooted had same blue screen but with different error message.

The server guys tried fixing it and could not, they had to rebuild the server. They are now saying that the installation messed up the drivers? not sure what they mean by that. Well the server is now ready to have cacti reinstalled and of course they want to see what I'm doing.

The first time I ran the installer the only problem was with .dll not having permission to the msvcr71.dll. From what I've read that should not cause this kind of problem. Trying to think back on what I did and not sure if any cause the problem:
1) I remoted consoled in and ran the installer
2) I did not turn off antivirus (overlooked that step)
3) I do have admin rights to the server but limited to certain system files.
4) installed in the E: directory instead of C:

Any suggestions before I reinstall?

Yikes!

I seriously doubt it was the installer that caused the server to crash. Hundreds of people have used it w/o problems. All of your various error messages really point to something else underlaying being the problem.

If you don't feel the installer is safe, then follow the installation guide in my signature.

I dont have any doubts and from what I've read the installer works great.

I was asked to find out if there are any issues with Windows 2003 SP1. Has anyone experienced problems with this OS and SP when running the installer or Cacti?

I've downloaded the .exe file (cacti-0.8.6j.1.5) again. This is the latest version right?

Wish me luck!!!

1 more question..

when i downloaded .exe file .. i right clicked on the icon to view properties.

Under the General tab--> below attributes. It showed locked. it said this file came from another computer, unlock to file. I click the unlock button. I did not do this the first time.

Not sure what this meant...

Yes, the installer works fine on Win2K3 SP1. Yes 1.5 is the latest version of it. It doesn't matter about the lock status of the file.

Your antivirus/malware software is adding the extra status of locked files.

Well the reinstall went great.. I didnt get a permission error for .dll file or anything. I think that being remoted into the server and trying to do the install may have caused some of the problems. One problem that i did noticed with both attempts was that network connectivity wasnt working properly.

The switch port showed connected, the adapter showed it was receiving packets but not sending any packet. The configuration was correct, static ip, dns configured, hard coded speed setting (1000 full). From the server, I couldnt ping the default gateway. But once I disabled and re-enabled to the adapter it worked. This occurred after both installs.

Thank you for you help.. Now i'm going to try to build some graphs--which is not working. I will post my question in another thread..thanks again.

No graphs are displayed but poller is working fine

Post by dvheusden »

Hi!
Thanks for the Windows installer package! Installs like a charm!

Now for my problem: for some reason I do not get any graphs working. The poller is working fine but when I debug the graph generation I only see the following with warnings but no graphs.

Any help and advice will be greatly appreciated!

Most likely an NTFS permission issue. Make sure the IUSR_ account has read/execute rights on rrdtool.exe and cmd.exe.

Update not displaying graphs problem!

Post by dvheusden »

Hi BSOD2600,
just for clarification purposes the problem was that the cmd.exe did not have the correct read and read/execute rights.

Perhaps the post install document needs an extra step?

I run on W2K3 SP1 with all latest OS patches and doing a fresh install.

Once I add the "Internet Guest Account", in my case CACTI\IUSER_W2003 the graphs are displayed.

Thanks again, not only for the problem solving but also for the ease of installation!
