graph data

Post by viper799 »

ok to start with i love this package it took me a while to get my first custom graph working but i starting to get the hang of it.

my question is say I want to graph something like traffic on my eth0 port i have a perl script that returnes the traffic in this format

down:value up:value

but these numbers are totals and keep going up so are not the changed values sense the last script run. I can make a php script to store the last data set and do the math my self if I had to but there has got to me a way to get cacti to only graph the changes in the last value vs the current one I have not found out where to do this so anyone please help out.

I have several scripts that return this kind of data so this info would be helpful.

Use 'Data Source Type' counter or derive

btw, why do you want to monitor network traffic using SNMP?

I run a site that uses up a lot of bandwidth I use a local perl script to return the data via Data Input Methods and graph it for my reference.

it is an awkward method. bandwidth monitoring is natively supported via SNMP and cacti has ready-to-use teplates to plot all data using snmp as a source.
