[XML] Cisco Router SAA (RTT) SNMP Query

Post by Deano »

I've created an SNMP Query and associated Graph/Data Templates for graphing round trip times from Cisco router SAA probes.

Gives a graph of RTT in milliseconds for each probe configured.

Details here:- http://www.eatworms.org.uk/cacti/cisco-saa.php

Full XML Import:- cacti_data_query_cisco_saa_response_times.xml

Query XML:- das_cisco_saa.xml

Can you describe us how to use this xml file in cacti.
Some xml files exist in cacti but linking other partf of cacti very complex I think.
So, we need help to use this xml or another query scripts.

Depends on your version.

If you have 0.8.4 - you can use the import function on the first XML and the simply add the query to any existing polling host. Very simple.

If you have earlier than 0.8.4 (e.g. 0.8.3a) Life is more difficult.

You can use the second XML file but you'll have to create the matching Query and Templates within Cacti yourself. Possible (and I'm willing to help) but much harder than upgrading to 0.8.4 ;)

Hehe :)
As you know, best system is working system and don't touch it :)
I use 0.8.3a and I don't think to use 8.4 before testing in test machine

Sorry about my noobie'ness. But once you have the XML file imported etc..what then? I don't see anything that lets me pick say 2 hosts, and then have them ping eachother and calc the RTT.

You still need to configure the actual monitors on the routers themselves - this only helps with the creation of graphs to monitor the results. I'll find a cisco link explaining the detail and post it.

Everything you always wanted to know about SAA, but were afraid to ask.

These two links will provide you with a lot of information. The first one is the SAA-page at Cisco. The second is the homepage of the engineer at Cisco who knows all about SAA.
