Windows 2003 Logged in users

When monitoring the amount of users logged into a win2k3 server it will only show an ever increasing numbers, instead of decreasing as users log off.

Ideas?

This sounds like you are trying to represent a COUNTER as a gauge in Cacti. If you go into "Data Sources", select the "logged in users" data source and make sure you have GAUGE for "Data Source Type".

If you change the value of this field, you need to delete its associated .rrd file for the change to take effect.

I checked it and it shows the following:

I have other windows 2k servers that are being checked, and their login counts increase and decrease correctly. Could it be something specific with 2k3?

It could be. I have have not played with SNMP under Windows 2003, perhaps it returns logged in users a COUNTER now. I would try changing the data source type to 'COUNTER', deleting the .rrd file, and seeing what happens.

Ok, you will have to excuse my ineptitude, but how do I change the data source type?

Here are the steps. Click on "Data Sources" and select your Windows 2003 logged in users data source. Change the "Data Source Type" field on this page from "GAUGE" to "COUNTER". Now delete the .rrd file referenced in the "Data Source Path" field and wait for Cacti to re-create it.

That is what i assumed as well, but "Data Source Item" and "Custom Data" sections are un-editable. When i get a chance to i am goping to see if i can edit/copy the "Logged in Users" data template and see if that will allow me to change it.

Any other suggestions?

If the fields are uneditable, that means you are using a data template for that particular data source. It is probably just easier to turn off the data template in this case. You can do this by selecting "None" for the "Selected Data Template" field and clicking "Save".

You should now be able to change the value of any field.
