Which router rules?

Post by adrianmarsh »

Hi All,

I've a simple one-subnet network at present. I'm planning on growing this out to a 2-router, multi-subnet network with firewalls and the lark..

One of the things I'd like to make sure of, is that Cacti works well with the routers - so I'm opening a suggestion box here for which is da-best router out there for the job. (Particularly MACtrack).

Heres some specs for the modest requirements:

1) I've currently 6 switches, which will be VLAN'd up into around 10 subnets. Supporting PCs/Linux/Macs.
2) I need one router to handle around half the subnets, and the other to handle more of a play "lab" network.
3) Obviously, cheapish is good. Budget is <3K

Look at the Cisco 2811. It's a very stable and nice platform. If that's a little over your budget look at the 1841. Both are very flexible.
