Cacti with graphs not continuous ...

Post by mnilsson@udcom.net »

Hi

All my graphs, have values but the graphs shows correct value but sometimes 0 that is true since cisco reports 0 some times but still i like the graph to make an average.

Than i am monitoring an antenna and the value is never at 0 but the graph every now and than reports 0 even if that value never occurs ...

what am i doing wrong here ???

the cacti log ...

Oh, oh, my. Suppose I should stop working after 10 hours or so.
So I got tired of posting always the same links and made up 2 sticky entries. Still waiting for the link on the main cacti site :cry:

Hi

i added the string accrodig to the document with >/var/local/log/poller.log 2>&1

the crontab responds:

Subject: Cron <hamm@hamm> cacti /usr/bin/php /var/www/cacti/poller.php >/var/local/log/poller.log 2>&1
X-Cron-Env: <SHELL=/bin/sh>
X-Cron-Env: <HOME=/home/hamm>
X-Cron-Env: <PATH=/usr/bin:/bin>
X-Cron-Env: <LOGNAME=hamm>
X-Cron-Env: <USER=hamm>

/bin/sh: /var/local/log/poller.log: No such file or directory

*************

i created the directory log under /var/log/

added an test string in the crontab as user hamm that i am and found it here as well not mentioned.

the user is cacti for

command crontab -e

*/5 * * * * cacti /usr/bin/php /var/www/cacti/poller.php >/var/local/log/poller.log 2>&1
*/5 * * * * cacti echo "i am trying here again every 5 minutes cacti"
*/5 * * * * echo "i am trying as hamm every 5 minutes"
**********************

the output from my echos:

Hi

in whar crontab do i suppose to put the crontab string ???i loggin as root and crontab -e to add that string in that crontab ...

the file cacti do not respond in any way as mentioned in the document about Nan ...

maybe this is to basics but i have my doubts about where to put that comand to run every 5 minutes ...

like to put it in root and modify the crontab file to do this and well i will see if it works because now with this change i get no graphs at all ...

bad example will go back to the old crontab that worked before ..

Hi

i have crontab polling every 5 minutes but the mesage i get is that the directory for adding the file poller.log does not exists but it does ...

now i have 3 users on that computer and i have enterned as user and did an SU and added this string for cacti with the following command crontab -e.

There the string is and i remved the cacti file under /etc/cdron.d/ directory so i guess there will not be various users doing the same thing or ????

I am awaitng for answer and i like ot to be easy since i am new to cacti and crontab ...

Well, of course you should change this to your log directory for cacti. E.g. choose the same directory the file cacti.log resides in
