cacti doesn't have all the files

Post by buggs1a »

I just downloaded today and cacti talks about some files that should be there, but they were not included in the zip file on the web site. So could someone fix this and include all files please? I also want to know why the author doesn't make an exe file for windows to install it? much easier. i dont know what files were missing and don't have the manual anymore to find out.

do i have to have apache? i am not using IIS or whatever etc.
What order do i need to install apps? mysql, php etc. all this is extremely confusing to me.

I did, sorry. I saw the sticky after I posted.
I then downloaded the exe and installed with some error saying a file can't be opened or something because it is locked. From within the installer. I ignored it and finished the install. I then started to look at the manuals docs but find it very difficult to understand.

After reading the installation guide in the sticky/my signature, what specific questions do you have?

I'm not sure just yet as I have not studied it in detail. I skimmed it to see what would be involved in configuring it, but didn't really get into it a lot. From my skimming it, I am confused, but I might be a little better once I really look at it in more detail.

One thing I think of right now is the first step I think tells you to open the config file it made for you, but it doesn't tell you the filename. So that if I'm correct, is something I don't get. I don't remember for sure though.

I didn't realize before this that there would be so much involved in getting this stuff to work.

Ok, this is hella confusing. I need some major help. I went through the post install page and now don't know what to do. I look in the manual.pdf and don't get anything. i don't have a clue. I don't know anything like this so it has to be explained to me like literally a 2 year old step by step. The manual pdf file is confusing as heck. everything is. not anything specific. i did find the cacti home page and log in as admin/admin don't work. nothing works. I'm totally clueless.

I suggest you delete what you've done and try the beta installer.

Also try http://docs.cacti.net/ , in addition to the installation guide.

I did use the beta installer. the manual.pdf is confusing because it seems like it has nothing to do with the exe installer. If it does I haven't a clue how so. The post install info is very short and doesn't tell you how to access or do anything really.

I'll say it like this.

What do I do? I would install via the exe beta installer. Then what? The post install doesn't give enough info and the manual.pdf doesn't deal with the exe beta installer that I can see. If it does I am confused. So, I install the exe first. Then what? That is the part I don't get. I did the post install, now I get dos windows opening every 5 minutes and closing. But no way to access the cacti web site or whatever else there is. So I guess I need help with what do I do after the exe install and post install?

I'm sorry, but there needs to be a better how to.

Go to graph management, click on a graph and then enable graph debugging. What is the error? If it says the *.rrd file is not found, then try http://docs.cacti.net/node/283

i think when I see broken images it means there is no graph for that. I have seen it is for localhost on everything and if it is for my Smoothwall Advanced Firewall router pc it might be for something I don't have a graph for.

Umm, one question I do have is if there is any graph info or whatever that would show me total in/out for week day and month and yearly bandwidth in bytes. So like 5gb for a day, 10gb for a week, things like that.

I have to still read all the documentation for the graphs and stuff. I am going to do that.

This is something I would gladly donate some money to you for if there's a chance to get it to show some stuff I would like. I just have to learn more about it. This Cacti seems awesome though.

one more question. I forgot to ask this. Is there anyway to have the dos window pop ups not pop up, but be minimized or something?

Thank you!!

Ok, this is the info I get when clicking on the graph debug for one graph.

RRDTool Command:

c:/rrdtool/rrdtool.exe graph - \
--imgformat=PNG \
--start=-86400 \
--end=-300 \
--title="Smoothwall Advanced Firewall 2 - Traffic - 192.168.1.1 (ethA)" \
--rigid \
--base=1000 \
--height=120 \
--width=500 \
--alt-autoscale-max \
--lower-limit=0 \
--vertical-label="bits per second" \
--slope-mode \
DEF:a="c\:/Inetpub/wwwroot/cacti/rra/smoothwall_advanced_firewall_2_traffic_in_11.rrd":traffic_in:AVERAGE \
DEF:b="c\:/Inetpub/wwwroot/cacti/rra/smoothwall_advanced_firewall_2_traffic_in_11.rrd":traffic_out:AVERAGE \
CDEF:cdefa=a,8,* \
CDEF:cdefe=b,8,* \
AREA:cdefa#00CF00:"Inbound" \
GPRINT:cdefa:LAST:" Current\:%8.2lf %s" \
GPRINT:cdefa:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf %s" \
GPRINT:cdefa:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf %s\n" \

GPRINT:cdefe:LAST:"Current\:%8.2lf %s" \
GPRINT:cdefe:AVERAGE:"Average\:%8.2lf %s" \
GPRINT:cdefe:MAX:"Maximum\:%8.2lf %s"
RRDTool Says:

OK

Actually, it means there is no *.rrd file for it.

Sort of. rrdtool averages data over time, so the numbers won't be entirely accurate UNLESS you modify the rra defaults and make the history larger. Read these pages http://docs.cacti.net/node/75

This is covered in the installation guides FAQ (run cacti's scheduled task under a different user account).

I don't understand the rrdata info stuff that you gave me the link to. I read it, but don't get it.

The whole reason for me wanting to monitor my traffic is to get total bytes for in and out for day week, month and year/total for WAN and LAN. Also the info already in cacti is awesome.

i'm slow and it is very difficult for me to understand stuff I read so that's the only reason I don't get it.
