"snmp error" server 2003 with Windows 2000/XP Hos

Can someone point me to the howto or other documentation to get 2k3 server statistics? First-time cacti user, have read the manual, have interface stats for Cisco 2800 routers using the 2600/3600 template and server stats for the Linux host that cacti is installed on.

Problem is I can't get cpu, memory, network statistics for W2k3 server using the "Windows 2000/XP Host" template. The status is shown as "unknown" and availability is 100%. Have captured traffic and see snmp exchanges to the server.

On the Console -> Devices -> Edit page, Using SNMP version1:

SNMP Information
SNMP error

Using SNMP version 2:

SNMP Information
System: No Such Object available on this agent at this OID
Uptime: No Such Object available on this agent at this OID (0 days, 0 hours, 0 minutes)
Hostname: No Such Object available on this agent at this OID
Location: No Such Object available on this agent at this OID
Contact: No Such Object available on this agent at this OID

Have seen lots of templates for Exchange, etc but assumed those aren't needed for basic status.

Help!

There is one that addresses configuring the snmp service. Sounds like you didnt specify a community or allowed hosts.

bsod - thanks for your quick response

ok, got it now. sorry for not providing platform/version info. the cacti server is on centos 4 and the issue was the windows host i wanted to monitor.

problem was resolved when i uninstalled the snmp service (add/remove programs -> add/remove windows components) and then reinstalled it.

That SHOULDN'T be necessary - any ideas why it is? I can't really uninstall and reinstall as servers are being monitorred by another system too!!! (NetCrunch... yuk...).

BTW the FAQ didn't really help...

argon0: Did you follow the FAQ and set up a community and allowed hosts for the SNMP agent? Do have have a firewall blocking the server? Do a basic SNMPwalk of the server and see if you get any data. Try: snmpwalk -v 1 -c public 127.0.0.1 system.

BSOD Yup, I did, worked out what was up, the node I was querying was the "virtual" name of a win2k3 cluster. Reinstalling made no difference.

Now I'm monitorring both nodes of the cluster. Going to use the "manage" plugin to "monitor" ports on the cluster name, and services on the node...

BTW snmpwalk gave results sometimes, and sometimes not. Mainly if I queried both nodes then immediately afterwards queried the Virtual node it worked...

ON a related query I've tried using the SNMPOID graph to graph uptime of the SNMP service (which is related to the uptime of the device) but can't get it to return anything - in the OID field do you need to surround the OID with quotes and if so why would using this ".1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3" string return nothing within Cacti but return sysUpTime.0 "3 days 13:44:24" from WSPingPro??

(also does the same from SNMPWALK on the cacti host)...

Most likely because you didn't specify a valid OID. Try snmpwalk'ing .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.

you're saying cacti does not show any uptime info for that device once you've added it? Does any snmp queries from cacti work against that device?

Yup they do. Yup the OID I quoted worked against the servers from SNMP walk, as it does with or without the . at the front:

snmpwalk -v 1 -c public 10.193.168.106 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3
SNMPv2-MIB::sysUpTime.0 = Timeticks: (8952700) 1 day, 0:52:07.00

Yup it shows nothing in Cacti.

Really I'm trying to graph uptime of a device without installing a client - and SNMP uptime is the closest I can get...

This info is displayed in the device screen.

Alright, thats good. Sounds like everything is working. The fact you're using plugins has the strong possibility to mess up things too.

So what problem are you having again?

ACtually this isn't resolved.

I have the exact same issue with another Widnows Server cluster.

I can do snmp queries from getif or wspingpro, but neither snmpwalk or snmpget from cacti server return anything....

You're doing the snmpwalk from the cacti box against the windows cluster?

Does cacti consider the cluster up or down?
