Cacti Back-up "INSERT INTO" issue

Post by LostPoller »

Hi!

We're running ccti-0.8.6.h on OSX. We frequently lose poller items (routers only) in the poller table which causes graphs to break. Not a big deal... we have a work-around by pulling the poller items from a backup and inserting them back into cacti!

My problem is with the backups I'm creating. Older backups are broken out line by line with "INSERT INTO" at the beginning of each line.

The backups I'VE been creating (using mysqldump cacti > <filename>.sql) is not so "organized". In fact, there are no separate lines at all, all the info. runs together as one line, which does not allow me to pull poller items for specific graphs. And only at the very beginning of all of this does it say "INSERT INTO". I've attached a file that shows the differences (names have been changed to protect the innocent!)

What am I doing wrong??? And is there anything I can do to fix this? Currently, I'm only able to "fix" graphs that were in place prior to 9/20... if any graphs created since then lose their poller items... I won't be able to fix it easily!

Appreciate ANY help!!

How do you loose poller items? Runtime exceeded? php.ini memory size too low? Always same target host or graph?

I honestly don't know. I'm great when it comes to adding/deleting devices and graphs... and know this process of putting the poller items back in, but always left the "know how" to my manager... who is no longer here! I'm not sure SHE knew why... we always attributed it to having too many devices/graphs (650 devices; 4,261 graphs currently). It's not always the same host, and it's always the routers (never the Netscreens)... there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. Happens sometimes when adding a graph for a new interface on a device... happens if the server reboots... although, it doesn't ALWAYS happen...

Working on breaking off some hosts onto another instance of Cacti... but in the meantime, I REALLY need this back-up fix. Any suggestions?

Appreciate your help!

I'm not really an accomplished OS X user, to be honest. To get an idea what is failing, you may have a look at my "NaN Debugging HowTo" (see my signature). IMHO, you should address the root cause, but I will have a look at your workaround if I find time this weekend.

Got it. Defaults may have changed when upgrading to a newer mysql version. Try using --skip-extended-insert as an option to your mysqldump statement
